SOLAR ENERGY DESIGN AND INSTALLATION
Helping Long Islanders save with solar energy
You couldn’t be happier right now; you’ve just signed your contract for clean, renewable energy and are ready to have a solar system installed on your home. You’re excited to get the panels up and start saving money on your electric bill… when will your system actually go up on your roof?
Before you can fully enjoy your lower electricity bill, there are a few steps that have to happen. The process takes time, but ultimately it’s all for your benefit.
First, we custom-design your solar system with your specific electricity needs and roof size in mind. It’s important that your system is designed to maximize your solar power production and save you on your monthly electricity costs. Our engineers calculate and project the sun’s angles over your home to determine your system’s yearly energy output. Every homeowner has a unique home and situation and we make sure you have the best system for YOU.
After the system is designed and the technical details are confirmed, we submit your system designs to the building department in your town to obtain a building permit. The length of time it takes to receive the permit varies by town. It can take up to 2 months to get the permits back. Energy By Choice takes care of all of the follow-up. We make sure your solar system adheres to your local regulations.
Separately, we also assist you in securing any financing you may need to pay for the system.
Once all these things are in place, then you are ready to install.
The panels, racking and all materials are ordered and you will be given an estimated delivery and installation date. Generally speaking, the only thing that will alter that schedule is weather (for safety reasons, we do not install if it is raining).
The installation itself takes about 2 to 3 days for an average-sized system, up to a week for larger systems. Your system will be up and running and you’ll immediately be able to see your production online.
Post install, you can expect an electrical inspection as well as an engineering and town inspection. They will all be coordinated by Energy By Choice and yourself for a day and time that’s convenient for you. This is to ensure everything was completed properly.
Overall, the process usually takes about 4 months total from start to finish, but varies depending on your local town and the utility company. Some projects go quickly; others can take a bit longer.
While there are some waiting periods, Energy By Choice takes care of the process for you, keeping you updated at every milestone. When it’s all said and done, you’ll be producing your own electricity at a fraction of what you were paying before you went solar!
