Energy by Choice Checklist
Things to check when purchasing a PV System

COMPARE AND EVALUATE

  • Compare and evaluate the system features, warranties and expected electrical output from each system proposed.

REFERENCES

  • Ask for customer references. You should also check with your local Office of Consumer Affairs.
Have the Contractor License # when you call Consumer Affairs.
    (Nassau- 516-571-3871 Lic. #41g7500000,
    Suffolk-
    631-853-4604 Lic. #40921-H, 41559-ME)
    Check the references

REVIEW CONTRACT

  • Review the written contract which includes a list of equipment with specific model numbers, prices and warranties for your PV system, as well as the cost of installing your system. Also make sure you know when to expect delivery and installation of your system. Ask questions. Read and understand the contract before signing it and keep a copy for your records.

WARRANTIES

  • Examine the warranties carefully and know their limitations. Be sure you know who is responsible for honoring the warranty - the installer, the dealer, the builder or the manufacturer. Warranties are very important to ensure that your PV system will be repaired if something should malfunction during the warranty period. In as much as warrantees are uncharacteristically long (what else can you purchase with a 25 year warranty), it is important to understand how warranty claims are made and accessed. Get it in writing.

CHECK MATERIALS

  • Verify that the materials are exactly as you ordered or specified before and during installation. Do not accept them if they do not match the equipment listed in your contract.

PERMITS/INSPECTIONS

  • Be sure that your contractor will assist you in obtaining all building permits and Inspections. Your system must be inspected and approved by a local inspector before it can operate. Energy by Choice does all the work for you.

UNDERSTAND YOUR NEW SYSTEM

  • Have the PV contractor review the PV system with you so that you understand its operation and what, if anything, is required by you for its operation and maintenance. Be sure the contractor supplies you with PV manual(s) for the operation of the equipment, and have the contractor review the manual with you. Energy by Choice will provide a duplicate copy of their project files for you at the conclusion of the project. Everything will be organized and in one place if you ever need it.
